Safety

Please note the responsibility you have to ensure the safety of yourself and others. This is especially important if you are interfacing high voltage mains electricity to your project or your project generates high voltage.

For example, although a terminal block is a correct way to connect to a mains electricity supply the connection shown below is dangerous because the conducting joints are exposed. Make sure all high voltage conductors are safely covered to insulate them from the environment.

Also electricity of any voltage is a fire hazard; make sure connections are correctly joined (poor connections have resistance and so can undergo large I2R heating), and appliances do not exceed a safe power rating (appliances are designed to dissipate heat safely up to the stated power rating).

For more information please approach your teachers, lab technicians or the department head for more information on electrical safety.
